Here are some reference sheets for some of the settings found in the film.
The first features a collection of images for Hollywood theatres and streets, some actually from the 1950's.
This will be useful when designing exterior theatre shots. I really like the idea of having spotlights in the streets since the theatre in my film will be hosting an opening night performance of a new show. I want to try capture the glitz and the glamour of such an event. I also like the sun set sky in the first picture, this will be useful since my film takes place just before 700pm.

This next sheet is for alleyway/stage door reference.
The film will start with the mail man posting the package at the theatre stage door. The alley way will seem grotty in comparison to the theatre front and main street. Next to the stage door there will need to be a parcel shoot, I also like the idea of having a single light above the door itself. Using this reference I should be able to start working on designs for these locations.

3rd Year Final Film

My brother and I decided early on that we wanted this film to have a faster pace than than our previous films. Our goal was to create something with a sense of suspense and tension. We soon came up with the concept which we thought would suit. What if a postman accidentally delivered a ticking package to an address, only later realising he may have just delivered a bomb. The rest of the film would consist of the postman frantically scrambling to retrieve the package before it's too late. Nothing builds suspense and tension like a bomb!

With that idea we started to flesh out the story with characters and settings. The film will be roughly three minutes in length and stop motion animated.

The film will be set in 1950's Hollywood.
The film centers around US Mail man Roy, who believes he may have just delivered a bomb to theatre, currently hosting an opening night performance of a new show.
The package had instructions to be delivered to the theatre before 700pm was addressed to Elle, a beautiful actress and star of tonight's show.
The mail man must find his way into the theatre, dodging angry ushers, and race to Elle's dressing room in search of the package before its too late!

There will be no dialogue, only sound effects and a musical score.
The film will also feature a ticking sound throughout to help build the tension.

Here is a research page for the Mail man character.

More to come soon!

Introduction.

Hello, and welcome to my blog!
My name is Joshua Flynn, I am a 3rd year student currently studying on a BA animation course at the University of Glamorgan specialising in stop motion animation. In this blog i will be posting artwork, information and photographs, documenting both pre-production and production of my next animated short film.

I have decided to collaborate with my brother Nathan for this project (He is also studying stop motion) . We enjoy working together and have done so on past projects including our 2nd year film 'Stumped'. You can find some of our work here-

I'll start by posting some of my pre-production work soon, including a summery of what the film will be about.
Thanks for looking!
